Trump Orders Lisa Cook Inquiry: November 5 Evidence Hearing

posted on October 9, 2026

Last updated 15 October 2026

President Trump has ordered a White House committee to investigate allegations that Federal Reserve Governor Lisa D. Cook made false statements connected to one or more mortgage instruments. The immediate result is an inquiry and a scheduled hearing—not Cook’s removal—and working families should watch the process for facts and a clear record rather than political speculation.

The October 7 presidential memorandum says the committee must determine whether there is “cause” for Cook’s removal under federal law. America First accountability means public officials should answer serious allegations through a defined process, with the evidence put before the person accused and a written finding afterward.

What did Trump order?

In the presidential memorandum, President Trump established a committee of inquiry to examine allegations involving Cook and mortgage instruments.

The memorandum names three committee members:

  • The Assistant to the President for Economic Policy
  • The Chairman of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission
  • The Director of the Office of Government Ethics

The President said the committee may consult executive-branch personnel, including the Department of Justice. The Attorney General is directed to publish the memorandum in the Federal Register.

What happens on November 5?

The White House memorandum sets an in-person hearing for November 5, 2026, at the White House. It says the hearing may last no more than four hours, will be closed to the public, and will be transcribed.

Step What the memorandum says
Before the hearing The committee must provide Cook the evidence it is considering.
Written statement Cook may submit a position statement at least three days before the hearing.
November 5 Cook is to appear and may present argument, written evidence, and written witness statements.
After the hearing Cook may submit a written statement by November 10.
Committee report The committee is to send findings, legal conclusions, and a recommendation to the President as soon as practicable afterward.

Can Trump remove Lisa Cook now?

No removal is ordered in this memorandum. It directs the committee to recommend whether cause exists for removal from the Federal Reserve Board of Governors under 12 U.S.C. 242. The recommendation comes after the hearing and Cook’s post-hearing submission.

The memorandum refers to Trump v. Cook, 146 S. Ct. 2234 (2026), in describing the removal standard, but this White House action is a presidential memorandum, not a Supreme Court ruling. For readers tracking presidential-power disputes, USPatriotNews also covered the Trump Supreme Court battle.

Can a president be removed from office?

Congress has the constitutional impeachment process for presidential removal. A House Intelligence Committee report describes impeachment as a congressional remedy and states that removal follows conviction for “Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.” That separate process is not what the October 7 memorandum establishes.

What this inquiry does—and does not—decide

The memorandum starts a fact-finding process focused on the allegations against Cook. It does not announce a final finding, remove Cook, or set a result for the November hearing. The committee’s written findings and recommendation are the next stated steps.

This is another example of the administration using formal executive action to press for accountability. Readers following the administration’s broader domestic agenda can also see the White House’s election integrity portal action.
