Jon Husted Senate Campaign: Trump’s 17-Interception Claims

posted on October 13, 2026

President Donald Trump endorsed Jon Husted for the U.S. Senate in Ohio on October 13 and said Husted had 17 college-football interceptions. The post is a campaign endorsement, not a new federal policy or government action. For Ohio working families, the immediate stake is electoral: Trump is asking voters to send Husted to the Senate.

Trump wrote on Truth Social that Husted was known as “Interception Jon” and that former coach Jon Gruden told him Husted had “17 interceptions, A RECORD!” Trump then wrote: “OHIO, VOTE FOR JON HUSTED FOR THE U.S. SENATE.”

What Trump said about Jon Husted

The President said he learned the football story at his first Ohio rally, when Gruden told him he had come to support a former teammate. Trump described Husted as humble and called him “a winner, a champion, and a great guy.”

The post presents Trump’s account of the conversation with Gruden and Trump’s endorsement. It does not announce a law, executive order, federal spending change, or new policy affecting fuel, energy, the Strait of Hormuz, or gas prices.

What happens next in Ohio

Husted’s Senate campaign still depends on Ohio voters and the election process. A Truth Social endorsement can shape a campaign message, but it does not place a candidate in the Senate or change federal law.

Readers following Trump’s Ohio political activity can also see Trump’s Ohio rally claims. For another recent presidential statement that did not itself create a policy change, see Trump’s October 7 statement.

What the post does not announce

The October 13 statement contains no announcement about releasing oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, managing the Strait of Hormuz, gasoline prices, foreign policy, or energy supplies. Those subjects remain separate from Trump’s endorsement of Husted.

Why the endorsement matters

Trump put a personal story at the center of his appeal to Ohio voters: Husted’s alleged record as a college safety and the character Trump says it reflects. The next decision belongs to voters, who will weigh that message alongside the candidates’ positions and the official election record.
