Georgia Election Day 2026: Polls Hours, Photo ID and Deadlines Guide

posted on October 23, 2026

Georgia’s general election is Tuesday, November 3, 2026. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at your assigned polling place, anyone in line at 7 p.m. may still vote, and you need to show one of seven accepted photo IDs.

When is Georgia’s next election day?

The next election is the general election on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. Advance voting runs through Friday, October 30, 2026. Georgia.gov and the Secretary of State’s 2026 election calendar list these dates for the general election and the runoff that follows it:

Date What happens
October 23, 2026 Last day to request an absentee ballot for the general election
October 24, 2026; October 25, 2026 Saturday advance voting; optional Sunday advance voting, depending on the county
October 30, 2026 Last day of advance voting
November 2, 2026 Registration deadline for federal contests in the December 1 runoff (state and local races: October 5, 2026)
November 3, 2026 Election Day: polls open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
December 1, 2026 General election runoff, if a race needs one

What time do polls open and close?

Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. on Election Day. Georgia.gov says: “Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. If you are in line by 7 p.m., you will be allowed to cast your ballot.”

Where do I vote on Election Day?

You vote at the polling place assigned to you. You can find it on My Voter Page, which shows your polling location and your sample ballot. For questions about your registration, ask your county registrar. For more detail, read how to find your polling place.

What photo ID do I need to vote in Georgia?

Georgia requires photo ID to vote in person or absentee. The Secretary of State’s voter ID requirements list seven accepted forms for in-person voting:

  • Any valid state or federal government-issued photo ID, including a free voter ID card from your county registrar’s office or the Georgia Department of Driver Services
  • A Georgia driver’s license, even if expired
  • A student ID from a Georgia public college or university
  • A valid employee photo ID from the U.S. government, the State of Georgia, or a Georgia county, city, board or authority
  • A valid U.S. passport
  • A valid U.S. military photo ID
  • A valid tribal photo ID

If you have a different ID, check the Secretary of State’s ID requirements or ask your county registrar whether it qualifies. If you do not have one of these, you can get a free Georgia voter ID card at any county registrar’s office or Department of Driver Services office. Confirm the documents you need with your county registrar or the Department of Driver Services before you go.

What if I have no ID or my name is not on the list?

You can request a provisional ballot if your name is not on the list or there is an issue with your eligibility, according to georgia.gov. The vote counts if you resolve the eligibility issue with your county registrar within three days after the election, such as by providing a missing ID. Georgia.gov’s general election page says the issue must be resolved “by the end of the next day,” which would be Wednesday, November 4, 2026. The Georgia.gov runoff page says within three days after the election. Confirm the exact deadline with your county registrar rather than relying on one date.

Can I vote early or by absentee ballot?

Yes. Advance voting runs through Friday, October 30, 2026. Check My Voter Page for the early voting sites open to you.

To vote absentee, you can request a ballot online or by mail. The last day to request an absentee ballot for the general election is October 23, 2026, according to georgia.gov. Your county registrar can confirm whether you qualify to vote absentee and which request rules apply to you. For voting options after that request deadline, check with your county registrar.

You can return your completed, signed absentee ballot to a drop box or your County Board of Registrar’s Office by 7 p.m. on Election Day, according to georgia.gov. Your county elections office can tell you which drop boxes are closest to you. The ballot must be received by your county registrar by the close of polls at 7 p.m. on Election Day. Georgia.gov’s Georgia.gov runoff election page states the same 7 p.m. rule: a mail-in ballot “must be received by your county registrar by 7 p.m. on Election Day to be counted.” Check your absentee status on My Voter Page.

Where are official election results published?

Georgia.gov provides a link to view election results, and the Secretary of State’s Elections menu links to its Election Results page for current and past results. For anything personal to your registration, use My Voter Page.

What is Georgia’s runoff, and when is it?

The Georgia.gov runoff page says that if no candidate receives a majority of the vote (50 percent plus one) in the general election, the top two finishers advance to a runoff. For background, see what is a runoff election. The general election runoff is Tuesday, December 1, 2026, for any race that needs one. Registration for the December 1 runoff closed October 5, 2026, the same deadline as the general election; for federal contests only, the Secretary of State’s 2026 calendar lists November 2, 2026.

Your checklist before Election Day

  • Look up your assigned polling place and early voting sites on My Voter Page.
  • Choose the photo ID you will bring from the list above.
  • If you want to vote by mail, request your absentee ballot by Friday, October 23, 2026.
  • If you vote absentee, return the ballot by mail or drop box so your county receives it by 7 p.m. on Election Day.

Start today by checking your polling place on My Voter Page.
