There is nothing quite as revealing in Washington as watching a politician change their tune the moment their own political skin is on the line — and President Donald J. Trump just called one out by name. In a blistering Truth Social post on July 31st, Trump publicly confronted Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) for suddenly opposing a compensation fund for Americans whose lives were shattered by the Biden administration’s relentless, politically motivated prosecutions. The timing, as Trump pointedly noted, was no coincidence: Cornyn’s objections came after Trump endorsed his Republican primary opponent in Texas — an opponent who went on to easily win the nomination.
This is Washington hypocrisy in its purest form, and the American people deserve to know about it.
Who Are These ‘Patriots’ Trump Is Fighting For?
In This Article
Let’s be absolutely clear about what this compensation fund is — and what it isn’t. Despite what the legacy media would have you believe, this is not a slush fund for President Trump himself. Trump was explicit: he voluntarily gave up any personal payments, even those that many legal experts argued he was entitled to following the unprecedented and constitutionally dubious FBI raid on his Mar-a-Lago home in August 2022 — an event that even Cornyn himself once called a “shocking and disgusting display of weaponization.”
The fund is intended for the hundreds of ordinary Americans — veterans, grandmothers, small business owners, first-time political activists — who were prosecuted, imprisoned, financially devastated, and publicly destroyed by a Biden Justice Department that had been turned into a political weapon. These are people who, in many cases, lost their jobs, their savings, their marriages, and their futures. The Biden DOJ pursued many of these cases with a ferocity it never once applied to left-wing rioters who burned American cities to the ground during the summer of 2020.
The disparity in how justice was applied under Biden is one of the great civil liberties scandals of our era. As Trump rightly stated, “Perhaps there has never been a group of people treated so badly in our Nation’s history.” That is not hyperbole. It is a documented pattern of selective, retaliatory prosecution that legal scholars across the political spectrum have raised serious concerns about.
Cornyn’s Convenient Change of Heart
What makes Cornyn’s reversal so damning is the timeline. By Trump’s account, the Texas senator had no issue with the proposed compensation fund — right up until the moment Trump threw his endorsement behind Cornyn’s primary challenger. Once that endorsement dropped, and once that challenger went on to win the Republican nomination, suddenly Cornyn found all sorts of problems with the very fund he’d previously supported.
This is textbook political self-interest masquerading as principle. It is the kind of Beltway maneuvering that has made millions of Americans distrust the ruling class in both parties. Voters in Texas and across the country sent a loud and unmistakable message in the 2024 presidential election — a landslide victory for Trump in which the persecution of these Americans was front and center as a campaign issue. The people have spoken. Career politicians who refuse to listen do so at their own electoral peril, as Cornyn is now learning firsthand.
It is also worth remembering what Cornyn himself once said about the Mar-a-Lago raid. When federal agents descended on a former president’s private residence in an action without historical precedent, Cornyn was among those in the Republican Party who expressed outrage. He knew then what the weaponization of the DOJ looked like. He said so publicly. For him to now turn around and obstruct relief for the victims of that same weaponized apparatus is, frankly, indefensible.
Todd Blanche Must Be Confirmed — Now
Trump also used his post to call for the immediate confirmation of Todd Blanche as U.S. Attorney General, calling him “a good man” who should face no delays. This is a critical piece of the puzzle. Restoring integrity and equal justice to the Department of Justice requires leadership that understands what was done — and is committed to ensuring it never happens again.
The American legal system was badly damaged by years of partisan prosecutorial overreach. Rebuilding public trust requires swift action, and that starts at the top. Every day the AG’s seat remains in limbo is another day the DOJ’s reform agenda is delayed. The Senate should act without hesitation.
- The Mar-a-Lago raid — unprecedented in American history, condemned at the time by members of both parties
- The Biden DOJ’s prosecutorial record — hundreds of cases pursued against political opponents while BLM-affiliated rioters faced minimal consequences
- Cornyn’s reversal — a textbook case of political self-interest overriding stated principle
- Trump’s landslide 2024 win — a democratic mandate from the American people to address government weaponization
Bottom Line
President Trump’s Truth Social post cuts through the noise and names a hard truth that Washington insiders would rather keep buried: some Republican senators are more loyal to their own careers than to the Americans who were ground up by the Biden administration’s political machine. The men and women who suffered under that machine — who lost livelihoods, freedom, and dignity — deserve restitution. They deserve an acknowledgment from their government that what was done to them was wrong.
Trump is fighting for those people. He gave up his own compensation to make sure theirs would come first. That is leadership. What Cornyn is doing, by contrast, is precisely the kind of swampy, self-serving politics that the America First movement was built to defeat.
The voters of Texas already rendered their verdict. The rest of official Washington should take note. Follow US Patriot News for continuing coverage of the fight to restore justice
