Trump Sounds the Alarm: Jack Smith Lied to Congress and Must Face Justice

posted on July 27, 2026

President Donald J. Trump isn’t letting Jack Smith off the hook — and frankly, neither should the American people. In a late-night Truth Social post, President Trump praised Congressman Brandon Gill (R-TX) for his powerful appearance on the Trey Gowdy Show, where the Texas congressman took a blowtorch to the legacy of one of the most politically weaponized prosecutors in modern American history. Trump’s message was crystal clear: Jack Smith lied before Congress, destroyed innocent lives, and it’s high time he faces real consequences for it.

This isn’t partisan noise. This is a reckoning that millions of Americans have been waiting for. The era of two-tiered justice — where Democrats and their allies in the deep state operate above the law while patriots are hunted, harassed, and financially ruined — must come to an end. And thanks to bold voices like Congressman Gill and the continued pressure from President Trump, that reckoning appears to be drawing closer.

Congressman Gill Steps Into the Spotlight

Brandon Gill, the young and fearless congressman from Texas, has quickly established himself as one of the sharpest and most effective voices in the House Republican conference. His appearance on the Trey Gowdy Show was exactly the kind of accountability journalism that the legacy media refuses to do. While CNN and MSNBC spent years cheerleading for Smith’s prosecution of President Trump, Gill was laying out the facts plainly and unapologetically.

President Trump took notice. Calling Gill’s performance “Fantastic,” the 47th President signaled to the conservative movement that Gill is the kind of fighter America needs more of in Washington. In a swamp still populated by too many go-along-to-get-along Republicans, Congressman Gill is standing tall — and the base is paying attention.

This is what real representation looks like. Not mealy-mouthed hedging. Not bipartisan hand-wringing. Real, honest, fearless accountability.

Jack Smith’s Record: A Witch Hunt by Any Other Name

Let’s be direct about what Jack Smith’s prosecutorial crusade actually was: a taxpayer-funded political operation designed to destroy Donald Trump and anyone who stood with him. The so-called “Special Counsel” pursued cases against the sitting — and future — president of the United States in ways that stretched legal norms and constitutional boundaries to their breaking point.

Smith’s cases ultimately collapsed. The federal charges against President Trump were dropped after his 2024 election victory, with the Justice Department acknowledging that a sitting president cannot be prosecuted at the federal level. But the damage Smith and his team inflicted along the way was very real:

  • Reputations were destroyed. Individuals connected to the Trump orbit were dragged through the mud, their names splashed across front pages before any verdict was reached.
  • Legal fees were weaponized. Ordinary Americans with tangential connections to Trump’s political efforts faced devastating legal bills designed to break them financially.
  • Democratic norms were shredded. The unprecedented nature of prosecuting a former and future president set a dangerous precedent that should alarm every American, regardless of party.
  • Congress was reportedly misled. President Trump has now stated flatly that Smith “stone cold lied before Congress” — an allegation that demands serious investigation and serious consequences.

If any conservative prosecutor had done half of what Jack Smith did — targeting a Democratic president’s political opponents, misrepresenting facts to Congress, engineering indictments for maximum political impact — the legacy media would have burned the country down demanding accountability. But because the target was Donald Trump, the same media called it “democracy in action.”

The hypocrisy is breathtaking. And Americans are done tolerating it.

Accountability Must Be More Than a Slogan

President Trump’s closing words in his Truth Social post carry real weight: Smith “destroyed many lives” and “hopefully he will be treated accordingly.” That’s not a threat — that’s a promise that the rule of law will finally apply equally to everyone, including those who believed their political connections made them untouchable.

For years, conservative Americans watched as the administrative state was turned into a weapon against their president, their movement, and their values. The FBI raided Mar-a-Lago. Grand juries were convened. Indictments were handed down in jurisdictions chosen for their political lean. And throughout it all, the architects of this legal warfare — Smith chief among them — faced zero accountability.

That has to change. A nation where prosecutors can lie to Congress, abuse their power, and walk away without consequence is not a nation governed by law — it’s a nation governed by whoever controls the levers of prosecutorial power. That’s a banana republic, not a constitutional republic.

Congress has the tools to act. Investigations can be launched. Testimony can be compelled. And if the evidence supports it — if Jack Smith did in fact make false statements before Congress — then referrals for prosecution must follow. No one who lectures the country about the rule of law gets to stand above it.

The American people elected Donald Trump in 2024 with a mandate to drain the swamp, restore equal justice, and hold the weaponized bureaucracy accountable. Voices like Congressman Brandon Gill are essential to making that mandate real. So is a President willing to name names, call out corruption, and refuse to let the establishment memory-hole its own abuses.

Bottom Line

Jack Smith’s witch hunt was never about justice. It was about power — the power of a permanent administrative class to punish political enemies and protect its own. President Trump is right to highlight Congressman Gill’s work, right to call out Smith’s alleged lies to Congress, and right to demand that those who destroyed lives in pursuit of a political vendetta be held accountable. The era of one-sided justice is over. Equal treatment under the law isn’t optional — it’s the foundation this republic was built on. And this President intends to make sure that foundation holds.
