What It Is (Without the Marketing)

Testosterone is a steroid hormone produced primarily in the testes (and in smaller amounts in the adrenal glands and ovaries). It is essential for male sexual development, muscle and bone maintenance, mood regulation, and metabolic health. In healthy adult men, testosterone levels typically range from 300–1000 ng/dL; in women, 15–70 ng/dL. Clinical hypogonadism — a diagnosed deficiency — may warrant medical testosterone replacement under a doctor’s care.
